Next-generation Nissan Micra will not be made in India

The hatchback Micra sold a major 4.58 lakh units out of the 6.2 lakh unit exports of the Nissan, since 2010.

Nissan’s Indian plant at Oragadam, near Chennai, will miss out on manufacturing the next-generation Nissan Micra, due to high manufacturing costs. So, the premium hatchback will be manufactured at the Flins Renault Factory near Paris, France. While in India, the Japanese carmaker will not roll out a next-generation Micra, a facelift of the Micra built on the V-platform is likely, sporting changes in interiors and design cues.

The next-generation Nissan Micra will be based on the shared CMF-B platform of the soon-to-be launched Renault Clio. The premium hatchback, which will also share design cues with the Sway concept of Nissan introduced at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, will debut at the Paris Motor Show in September this year.

The next-generation Nissan Micra premium hatchback will look suave and swanky equipped with even more premium features. The design will also be modern and futuristic like the Sway Concept of Nissan. With a longer wheelbase, a spacious cabin and increased legroom are expected in the next-gen Micra. The premium hatchback will also get a touchscreen infotainment system and more premium features and equipment.

The current-generation Nissan Micra has not also been a domestic success for Nissan, though it had been the much-awaited model from the Japanese manufacturer’s Indian operations. However, both the Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have been selling 20-25 times higher than Nissan with 9,033 units of the Maruti Suzuki Swift and 12,678 units of the Hyundai Grand i10, in June 2016.

While selling only 554 units in June 2016 in India, the Nissan Micra won the honors of being the most exported car in June 2016. The hatchback Micra sold a major 4.58 lakh units out of the 6.2 lakh unit exports of the Nissan, since 2010. The Nissan commands a great market share in the developed European markets as the UK, Italy, Germany and Switzerland, with exports of over 100,000 units in the current year in these markets.
