Top 10 Cars May 2016: Maruti Suzuki dominates in seven spots out of ten

Maruti Suzuki Alto managed to achieve the top spot again with 19874 units.

In the May 2016 sales charts, Maruti Suzuki dominates the top four spots, as well as seven spots out of ten. Though certain models showed a YoY decline to even about 28%, the rise in sales in the other models and the usual higher numbers of Maruti Suzuki sealed the first four spots like last year.

Maruti Suzuki Alto managed to achieve the top spot again with 19874 units, despite a YoY decline in sales by about 12%. DZire finds the second spot with a 3% rise in sales (16968 units), while WagonR managed to achieve a YoY growth of 6% to claim the third spot with 13231 units sold. Maruti Suzuki Swift had a 28% decline in sales with 12,355 unit sales to secure the fourth spot.

The Hyundai Grand i10 moved one spot up to 5th, at 12055 units, with a 19% increase. The Hyundai Elite i20 moved two spots down to 7, with a 17% drop in sales, with 8600 units sold.

Baleno made it to the 6th spot, claiming it anew with 10004 units. The contest between the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai Elite 120 has been neck and neck for the past few months.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio rose to the 8th spot with an 11% surge in sales with 7,379 units sold last month. The 8, 9 & 10th spots had a very close race with a difference of just about a 100 units among them. Toyota’s recent launch the Toyota Innova Crysta MPV is a new entrant into the top ten at the 9th spot with unit sales of 7,259.

Segment leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the compact SUV, found the 10th spot with 7,193 units sold, leaving Hyundai Creta out of the Top 10 by just about a 100 units.

For the next few months, Tata Tiago Datsun redi-GO look all set to enter the Top Ten charts, while Renault Kwid couldn’t make it to the Top Ten as expected, with sales of only 5600 units.
