Nov. 12: Less than a week after a two-year-old boy died when a concrete bench fell on him in a park in Jalahalli, a two-year-old girl was crushed to death under an excavator in a Sanjaynagar park Thursday afternoon.
N. Nandini was playing at a worksite in the park when the accident occurred, an RT Nagar traffic police officer said. Narasimhalu, the girl’s father, was employed with the contractor who had taken up work on cleaning the stormwater drain near the park in Dollars Colony as a daily wage worker. “Work on cleaning the stormwater drain had been taken up over the last few days. The excavator was removing sand from the drain when the accident occurred,” the officer said. Narasimhalu and his wife Parvathi work for Madhavan High-tech Pvt. Ltd, which was given the contract to clean the drain.
On Thursday, the couple came to the work site with their daughter. “Nandini was playing inside the park as her parents were busy at work. Madhu, the driver of the excavator, failed to notice Nandini as he started the vehicle and ran over the girl killing her on the spot. He fled the scene soon after the accident,” the officer said. The RT Nagar traffic police has booked a case against the company.
BBMP chief engineer (stormwater drain, north) Prabhakar K. said: “The contractor executing the work will take care of the issue of compensation to the victim’s family.”
