Nov. 29: In a move to ensure that BJP does not run away with a majority of the 25 seats in the Council polls, Congress and Janata Dal(S) have struck an electoral understanding. The Congress will contest 17 seats and the JD(S) seven while the decision on one seat is yet to be made.
The JD(S) has been given a Council seat in Mysore which has two seats, Mandya, Hassan, Tumkur, Bidar and two other seats which are yet to be finalised.
The Congress has decided to give a second term to S. Ravi, nephew of KPCC working president D.K. Shivakumar who will contest from Bangalore Rural. The other MLC selected for a second term is N. Manjunath from Mysore, said Congress sources.
Former minister M.Y. Gorphade’s son, Venkatarao Gorphade and former chief minister J.H. Patel’s son, Mahima Patel, will be contesting from Bellary and Shimoga respectively. The names of other Congress candidates and their respective constituencies are: Bijapur- S.R. Patil, Dakshina Kannada- Pratapchandra Shetty, Uttar Kannada- Mr Kotnikar, Gulbarga- Allamprabhu Patil, Raichur- Basavaraj Patil Itgi, Kolar- Nazir Ahmed, Bangalore Urban- Dayananda Reddy, Kodagu- T. John, Belgaum- Veerkumar Patil, Chikmagalur- Ms Gayatri Shantegowda; Dharwad- Shrinivas Maane and Chitradurga-Mehboob Pasha.
