Sept. 25: Come October, find yourself transported to the good old Bengaluru right in the middle of the teeming city. Revisit nostalgic moments through the eyes of theatre, music, photography and poetry to be held in the parks, local bars, streets and markets.
The history of a city that has more to it than its IT parks, will be narrated through various forms of creative expressions during the ‘October Jam’.
Members of the Theatre Jam feel that this journey to the past is essential to trigger the long-lost dialogue within the society. The culture of social and creative expressions through art is fast disappearing from Bengaluru and artistes in the city feel that public spaces are becoming more regulated and restrictive. These spaces need to be reclaimed through such activities, felt Ekta M., member of the Theatre Jam community.
“It will also allow artistes to share their ideas and collaborate on different fronts. Public spaces are a great meeting and learning space and can serve as an effective medium of communication. Throughout October, the activities by artistes who will assemble from all across the country will reflect on society and send out relevant social messages along with creating a new audience for art — that, which is not restricted to a specific set of people,” said Ekta.
Activist theatre groups will also put forth issues concerning caste discrimination, dowry, love and sexuality among others.
“As the city is going through a process of transformation, communities and geographies are getting fragmented. Theatre Jam is a space to revisit the concept of community with the arts while providing artistes a platform to share their ideas,” she added.
Some of the public places where the art shows will be held include Cubbon Park, Ulsoor Market, Shivajinagar, Nanda Park, KR Market and Lavanya Bar in Kamakshipalya.
