Johannesburg: After losing the Test series 1-2, Team India bounced back in the shorter format of the game winning the recent ODI series 5-1. After putting up  dominating performance in the ODI, Virat Kohli and co started the three-match T20 series on winning note, beating South Africa by 28 runs in the first T20 match at Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan starred with the bat scoring 72 runs off 39 balls, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar produced a fine spell of bowling to pick up 5/24, his first in T20I.

On his way to maiden five-wicket haul in T20I, Bhuvi became only the second Indian bowler after Yuzvendra Chahal to achieve the feat. Chahal earlier took 6/25 against England in Bengaluru in 2017 to record the best figures by an Indian bowler in this format.

The Merut pacer also created a record by becoming the first Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in each format of the game.

In the first T20 game, the 28-year-old bowler picked up the crucial wicket of Reeza Hendricks (70 runs) in the 18th over diminishing the hosts chance of winning the match against India.

In the final stages of the game, Bhuvi returned to pick up three wickets in an over, which also included a run-out, resulting in a team hat-trick for India restricted South Africa to 175/9 to win the match by 28 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
