Port Elizabeth: India completed a historic first-ever ODI series win over South Africa in South Africa with a 73-run victory over Aiden Markram’s men in the fifth ODI, taking the series 4-1 with one match to play.

While Rohit Sharma (115) was the man with the bat, Kuldeep Yadav was the key highlight of India’s bowling, finishing with a spell of 4-57.

Wishes poured in from a lot of former and current cricketers as they outplayed the hosts.

However, despite clinching the series successfully, former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth was concerned with some of the players in the team, including MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya.

While he was of the opinion that the series has been all about captain Virat Kohli and significant partnerships with the middle-order, he did express a concern about Dhoni.

“This series has so far been all about Virat Kohli and one significant partnership with him in the middle (last three with Dhawan). Once you take those numbers out, there is little else to show. Constant chopping and changing of personnel and the batting order is not helping the team’s cause either.

"Dhoni failed to accelerate as he has in the recent past. The former captain and Hardik Pandya could not have hoped for a more solid platform to launch an attack and get India to a massive score,” he was quoted saying to the Times of India.

Speaking about the fourth ODI, which India lost, he said that the visitors were at least 30 runs short.

“You don’t end up on 289 in 50 overs after being 206/2 with 15 overs to go. A total in the region of 320 should have been achieved without any trouble. I do agree the stoppage in play halted their progress, but India definitely fell short by at least 30 runs. The result in a way also held a mirror to their white ball chances when taken out of their comfort zone,” he added.

The Men in Blue will now travel to Centurion for the final ODI, as they look to finish on a high.
