The pacer has represented the country in 163 matches across all format picking up 235 wickets.  Speaking about his contribution towards game skipper Virat Kohli during toss said “Ashish Nehra is playing. He has been a great servant for Indian cricket. He's one of the smartest guys I have played with. A true gentleman. Always willing to help the young guys in the team. It's sad to see him go”.

In the pre match interview Nehra said “ I first played my Ranji game here 20 years back so the journey is ending where it started, it is little bit emotional but part of the life. It is a great feeling especially as a fast bowler the way its going and the way the game is so fast it is not easy to play that long and I was trying to do what best I can do and I cant get better feeling that this, you retire after 18-19 years and from Indian dressing room with Indian jersey, I cant think it can get bigger than that.
