13,075 complaints addressed: Kiran Bedi

Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor’s office alone had addressed 13,075 complaints this year, which include 5,762 complaints received through open house, 5,692 either through a website or email, 1,632 through WhatsApp and others from newspaper reports, claimed Lt Governor Kiran Bedi.

In a press release titled ‘Raj Nivas Look Back’, Ms Bedi said that refusing to be a simply a post office Raj Nivas followed up each complaint and petition received, with departments and officers concerned.

Maximum number of complaints received were concerning civic issues including sanitation, garbage, public nuisance, streetlights, and encroachments. The second largest number of complaints were received under the category of service matters like promotions, posting and after this was issues related to the department of education such as lack of facilities and teaching staff.

Team Raj Nivas, public grievance redressal cell of Lt Governor’s office, comprising Bedi herself, secretary to the Lt Governor, private secretary, Chief grievance officer, a family counsellor, and a Lok Adalat para Legal had also addressed issues such as corruption, irregularities in medical admission, wrong tenders, faulty procedures and wastage of public money, said the Lt Governor.
Team Raj Nivas also directly attended people from 5 pm to 7 pm in the open house listening to complaints and also of people from Mahe and Karaikkal regions of the Union Territory through video conferencing.

“All these sources have been an enormous source of information and knowledge to Team Raj Nivas. The easy access to Raj Nivas made us receive considerable information from RTI activists based on authentic information”, she said.

In all, 128-weekend rounds were conducted this year to directly see, resolve or highlight an issue. “But we did not stop the effort. It strengthened the resolve.

The good news is that some of the same persons (who criticised Raj Nivas earlier) are inviting Team Raj Nivas to visit their problem areas which make Raj Nivas a ‘People Nivas’”, said Ms Bedi.
