Kochi: Former prime minister Manmohan Singh on Friday asked the CPM and other Left parties whether they were  ready to form a united front with the Congress to defeat the BJP.    Addressing the  ‘Padayorukkam’ rally led by opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala against the policies of the central and state governments in Kochi, he criticised the  LDF government  and said law and order had  crumbled and economic progress slowed down in the state during the past one-and-a-half years.

Referring to the national political situation,  he said,  “I have a question to  ask the CPM and Left parties   At the national level,  are we going to oppose the BJP as a united front or will the CPM  keep the BJP and the Congress at the same distance? If they are sincere in their fight against the BJP and its anti-people policies,  they have to cooperate with the Congress at the national level and  fight together the BJP’s misrule,” he said.
