Chennai: An ITI student, who had been entangled in love triangle supposedly, was murdered during late hours of Friday, here in Chennai.

The victim has been identified as R. Ranjith (18), a resident of Appu Street, Nungambakkam. Ranjith, a first-year electrical student at the government industrial training institute (ITI), Guindy, had left his house on Friday evening to attend a relative function held at Minjur, according to the police.

Police said Ranjith, survived by his mother Saraswathy and elder sister Pavithra, had not returned home from the function. Meanwhile, his anxious mother and relatives searched frantically around their locality only to find his dead body on Tank Bund Road, 500 meters away from his residence, the police added.

The police officer also added that Ranjith had contacted his mother and said that he was on his way to home.

“But his body was found less than half an hour. He had succumbed to cut injuries on his neck, apparently caused by a knife or broken bottle,” the officer said.

According to a police source, Ranjith, while staying in Guduvancheri, evidently had had a relationship with a girl. “We are suspecting love triangle as the possible reason for the crime. He also had reportedly received intimidation calls from a person,” the source added.

The police retrieved Ranjith’s body and sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for the autopsy. Nungambakkam police have registered a case and investigation is on. Moreover, two special teams are formed to nail the murderer.
