Charminar picked for Swachh mission

The National Thermal Power Corporation Limited is the PSU partner to support Charminar, said an official release.

Hyderabad: The Charminar has been picked as one among the 100 iconic places for clean-up under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The first phase covers the Golden Temple at Amritsar, the Taj Mahal, the Meenakshi temple at Madurai. Charminar has been selected for the second phase.

Each of the iconic places will be supported by a public sector unit for additional financing, technical and managerial requirements. The National Thermal Power Corporation Limited is the PSU partner to support Charminar, said an official  release.

A detailed consultation was held at New Delhi on Tuesday by officials of the Union ministry for drinking water and sanitation with GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy for the preparation of an action plan and implementation schedule.

Other places include the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir,  the Tirumala Lord Balaji temple in Andhra Pradesh, Dargah Ajmer Sharif in Rajasthan, the Jagannath temple in Odisha, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai, Manikarnika Ghat in Uttar Pradesh and Kamakhya Temple in Assam.
