KAKINADA: The policy adopted by the technical education department of giving grace marks to students has become a cumbersome exercise in Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK). Nearly 5,000 engineering students have become eligible for  grace marks. This move has lead to delay in issuing certificates to students. To curb the malpractices in the examinations, the JNTUK has adopted a new policy. The University will not give the same question paper to all the branch students.

According to the University sources, the students who are eligible for grace marks have been waiting for past three months to get their certificates. “I have been waiting for my certificate for past three months. I was appointed in major software company. But due to non-submission of certificates to the company, I could not join on prescribed time. I could lose my opportunity if there is further delay,” said a tensed student.

he student made several appeals to the University officials for speedy disposal of his certificates. Director of evaluation of the University Prof P. Subba Rao said that the certificates of general students are being issued within one week to two weeks according to availability of evaluation department officials. But in the case of grace mark qualifying students, the University has to issue certificates, after thorough examining the paper, recommended by the experts.

However, he said that if any student who gets appointment letter for their jobs from the respected companies, the University immediately would expedite the process for the benefit of students. He said that those students can be given preference in this matter.
