Bid to rob ATM fails in Kovai

Coimbatore: Police have launched a search for two masked robbers, who made a vain bid to rob cash from an ATM in the wee hours of Saturday near Katoor in Coimbatore. According to police, two unidentified persons sought to break open Indian Overseas Bank's ATM near Katoor Park gate signal on Nanjappa road, but failed. They reportedly entered the ATM cabin around 2 am as if they were withdrawing cash, but broke the machine using a knife, cutting player and hammer, police said.

Seeing the security men the duo, fled the spot. On receiving information from the security guard, a police team led by assistant police commissioner Somasekar rushed to the spot and began investigations. They have launched a manhunt for the miscreants based on footage from the CCTV installed at the ATM, sources added.
