Kotha Sandhya, a Class X student studying at Udaya Memorial High school in Jadcherla, Mahbubnagar committed suicide by hanging herself on Monday morning.

Bengaluru: A family dispute led a 28-year-old woman to strangle her four-year-old daughter and hang herself, on Chunchaghatta Main Road in Konanakunte police limits on Friday night.

The deceased have been identified as Sheelu and her daughter Vanshika. Sheelu was the wife of Sanjay Gupta, who hails from Uttar Pradesh and runs a paani poori shop. He moved to the city about five years ago.

The police said that it was second marriage for both Sheelu and Gupta. Gupta's first wife Urmila was murdered by two men over a financial dispute in August last year. Gupta had then married Sheelu. Gupta has a son, Deepu, a special child, from his first marriage, while Sheelu's daughter was from her first marriage. The couple reportedly fought over taking care of Deepu and it had led to frequent quarrels between them.

“Recently, Sheelu left her husband and went to her parents' house. But her parents had sent her back saying that she had to live with Gupta. Sheelu killed Vanshika on Friday evening. Later, she cut her wrist and then hanged herself. The incident came to light around 10.30 pm when Gupta returned home. When Sheelu did not open the door after repeated knocks, he broke open the door with the help of his neighbours and found the wife and daughter dead,” the police said.

The Konanakunte police, who have registered a case, are questioning Gupta to find out what exactly led to the incident.
