2 lottery agents held in Tirupur

The 'number lottery' has turned attractive to mill workers in western districts including in Tirupur, Coimbatore, Erode and Salem.

The Koramangala police have arrested two people, including a fake journalist, on charges of drug peddling and seized one kg of charas worth Rs 3 lakh from the accused.

Tirupur: The Tirupur city police arrested two agents for clandestinely running the banned 'number lottery' by using Kerala lottery results. The 'number lottery' has turned attractive to mill workers in western districts including in Tirupur, Coimbatore, Erode and Salem. Customers could predict winning numbers of other state lotteries and it would be noted by agents after getting payment for every number. If the predicted number wins, the agents will give the amount based on results.

Following a tip-off, a team of police officials conducted surprise check at Ashar Nagar and arrested an agent Sarathkumar, 25 in connection with this lottery. Police seized 20 lottery tokens from him.  In a similar search, the team arrested Sivakumar, 37, hailing from Tiruchy after conducting surprise check at Karuvampalayam. Police also seized a lottery tokens notebook and some cash from him. Both the accused have been since remanded to judicial custody.
