Cultural catwalk

The students of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) organised ‘The Multifarious Cultures of India’ fashion show over the weekend as part of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat programme. 

A huge gathering of students took part in a cultural catwalk, representing various states and their regional traditional attire. Suma Sree Madasu won the first prize in the solo round. “Around 30 students participated in the competition. I felt good that I won as it has given me a lot of  confidence,” says the MA English Language Teaching student, adding, “I represented the Gujarati culture though I am from Andhra Pradesh. The event was all about unity in diversity.”

The students not only set the stage on fire with a ramp walk, but also presented interesting facts about the state they were representating through a PowerPoint presentation. Says Richa Sharma, an MA English Literature student who won the second prize in the couples’ category along with Sourabh Kumar Yadav, “The students were enthusiastic throughout and it was a great experience. It helped us get out of our comfort zone. I was also part of the organising committee and enjoyed a lot. In fact, people said that I would win even before the competition began! I represented the Bihari culture.”

Kavya Srinivas, who is pursuing MA in Journalism and Mass Communication, was always fascinated by the culture of Punjab. “As I am a Telugu girl, dressing up as a Punjabi was so much fun. I did not know that this was even a competition until they announced that I won the second prize!” she beams.
