A group of techies based in Bengaluru, have joined hands to tell a tale of Kempiruve meaning red ant! While working through the disciplined characteristics of Kempiruve, director Venkat Bharadwaj returns to the silver screen after his previous film Bablusha. This time, this red ant is a comedy-crime thriller revolving around the life of a retired senior citizen. The multiple national award winning actor Dattanna, also an ex-serviceman from the Indian Air Force essays the lead role which the director says is contemporary when compared to present society. Bengaluru Chronicle reports on this unique laughing saga of a crime thriller.

“Kempiruve is a comedy wrapped in a crime-thriller. The subject is very similar to the characteristics of red ants, who follow a disciplined life and adjust into a perfect lane even when disturbed by external forces. The protagonist here is a senior citizen and the contemporary tale is the main hero. The story line is about the life of a disciplined man that gets disturbed by some incidents. How he overcomes those challenges in an urban setting is the crux of the film,” says director Venkat Bharadwaj.

The filmmaker further explains that the life of a senior citizen comes bridled with a great many challenges — in this case, his income stops and he realises the true nature of his blood relatives. The world of corporates, a retired life, and the challenges all bring on a difficult phase in an urban community, a harsh reality, which is very close to real life, he feels.

Actress Suvin, who also has a corporate background makes her acting debut in the film. “Despite working, my inclination was always towards the performing arts.

I started taking up theatre activities and practicing various dances forms including contemporary and hip-hop. In fact, I got a reference to try for the audition of this film at my dance class. I play the role of Dattanna Sir’s colleague at the workplace before he retires. My role has two different aspects to it, which focus on the vulnerabilities of human nature,” explains Suvin, adding that as the film is about a common man and how life changes for him, it was very exciting for her to be a part of it.

Multilingual actor Sayaji Shinde makes a comeback to Sandalwood with Kempiruve, to play the role of a politician. Kempiruve is set to release in the coming weeks.
