Amole Gupte has been known for his work on Taare Zameen Par, and helming movies like Stanley Ka Dabba, Hawaa Hawaai and Sniff!!, all featuring children as protagonists.

Now, the filmmaker reveals that an important part of the Saina Nehwal biopic he’s directing, featuring Shraddha Kapoor, will also be about Saina’s childhood.

Says Amole, “Saina was also a kid. A lot of her achievements came when she was a child. That will comprise of a major part of the film. And that’s my stronghold.”

The director, who also has many credits as an actor, says that the focus of the film, however, is a lot more on the life and career of the Indian shuttler. “Sure enough, we’re keeping her family in mind, and the badminton in focus too, while making the film,” he adds.

While rumours have been around that Shraddha is finding it difficult to cope with the practice required for the film, and is getting injured, Amole is all praises for her. “She’s doing well; she’s practicing very well. She has already finished the first phase of badminton, so she can take her time and essay Saina’s role. It’s a very good challenge for her,” he says.

However, Amole says that it has been a tough journey so far. “We’re shooing in September. It’s a lot of preparation. It’s not an easy film,” he admits.
