Mumbai: Ranveer Singh and Jim Sarbh’s chemistry in ‘Padmaavat’ has been as much a talking point as Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer’s cold war before the movie’s release. But did you know that Jim was Ranveer’s recommendation?

Ranveer told The Hindu, “I think Jim made some special choices in portraying the character. In fact when I saw his work in Neerja, I thought he was fantastic and recommended his name for Malik Kafur’s character and that is how he got the part.”

He added, “He enriched my performance. He is one of the biggest takeaways of the film. A lot of the film has been cut out, and a lot of that was about Khilji and Malik but it still has the impact. Jim gets full credit for it.”

Shahid, in an interview with DNA After Hrs had said that he felt like an outsider on the sets of ‘Padmaavat’. "I'm used to being the favourite of all my filmmakers. This was the first time that I was like an outsider. When you work with a team that has worked together, you are kind of an outsider and it takes time for you to break through that barrier."

Ranveer Singh in a recent media interaction post the success of the magnum opus, asserted that he tried his best to welcome Shahid. "To be honest, I did my best to welcome him and did whatever I could do to be a supportive co-actor. But I think it's got to do with the genre as well. I think ‘Padmaavat’ is Shahid's first costume drama and a costume drama has its own set of unique challenges which I had faced during Bajirao Mastani and it takes some time to get adapted to it. I think he's reacting to that," he said.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, 'Padmaavat' also stars Deepika Padukone in the lead role.
