Rare gesture: Top cops get key chains from Home Minister G Parameshwar

This the first time that a home minister has given return gifts to senior police officers.

Bengaluru: In a rare display of bonhomie at boss’s house, Home Minister G. Parameshwar on Friday treated some senior most IPS officers to a sumptuous breakfast spread and even gave them “surprise” return gifts, of a self-embossed sandalwood keychain and fountain pen.

Around 26 officers of the rank of additional director general of police and director generals of police had gone to meet the Home Minister to wish him New Year at his official residence and were “pleasantly” surprised when Dr Parameshwar organised a lavish breakfast and gave them return gifts. This the first time that a home minister has given return gifts to senior police officers.

“It’s a usual practice to greet the Governor, Chief Minister and Home Minister on important days and functions. But this is the first time an HM (Home Minister) has given return gifts to IPS officers, who had gone to greet him. It was a good gesture,” said an officer on condition of anonymity.

The sandalwood key chain has an embossed picture of Dr Parameshwar and carries his portfolio as the Home Minister of Karnataka on the hind side. His name has been etched on the pen as well.

“Whichever way you hold the key chain you cannot lose sight of the boss,” added another officer in a lighter vein.
