Karan Johar to remake OK Bangaram in Hindi

We had previously reported that Mani Ratnam would remake his Tamil blockbuster O Kadhal Kanmani (OKK) in Hindi with one of his former assistants Shaad Ali directing it. The latest is that the popular Bollywood director Karan Johar will produce the film.

Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur will reprise the roles of Nithya Menon and Dulquer Salmaan. Karan, who is currently shooting Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, took to Twitter to make this surprise announcement.

“Honored to collaborate with Mani Ratnam on the recreation of his labour of love... Directed by Shaad Ali... Cast coming up (sic),”he wrote.

Later, he also shared the details of the cast. “Mani Ratnam... Gulzar saab... AR Rahman... Shaad and us present Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur in the official recreation of OK Kanmani (sic),” read one of his tweets.

AR Rahman, who did the music for the Tamil movie, will be doing it for the Hindi film as well. It’s unclear if Prakash Raj, who played a crucial role in the film, would reprise his role in the in Hindi version. The film, which marked Mani’s comeback to the romance genre after a decade, was a fresh take on modern day relationships. The screenplay of the film is reportedly being co-written by Mani and Ali. The film will go on the floors early this year.
