ECI gets into poll mode; CEO calls for transfers

ECI of India has commenced the ground work for the 2016 TN Assembly election.

Chennai: The Election Commission of India has commenced the ground work for the 2016 TN Assembly election. The state chief electoral officer, Rajesh Lakhoni has directed the district election officers/ district collectors to transfer the officials likely to be called for poll duty if they have completed three years of service in their present district posting.

In a letter sent to DEOs / Collectors, Rajesh Lakhoni has stated that officers, connected with the conduct of elections in the State, do not serve in their home district/places where they have served for long.

Hence, the Commission has decided that no officer connected directly with the election would be allowed to continue in the present district posting. Transfer orders would be issued to officials who had completed three years in a district during the last four years or would be completing three years of service as on May 31, 2016.

The commission would follow the cut-off date scrupulously and the three-year period shall be reckoned backwards from May 31, 2016. Officials to be appointed for specific election duties include district election officers, deputy district election officers, returning officers, assistant returning officers and additional district magistrates, deputy collectors, sub-divisional magistrates, tashildars, block development offices or any other officer proposed to the deployed for the election duty.

Lakhoni said as far as officers in the police department are concerned, the instructions shall be applicable to Range IGs, DIG, Commandants of State Armed Police, SSPs, superintendent of police, sub-divisional head of police, inspectors or equivalent ranks.
