I am a senior actor to Prakash Jha in ‘Jai Gangaajal’: Priyanka Chopra

The film is slated to release on March 4th 2016.

Mumbai: Priyanka Chopra, who left everyone spellbound with her path breaking performance as Kashibai in the recent release ‘Bajirao Mastani’, will now be as a powerful cop in ‘Jai Gangaajal’. The film also marks the acting debut of director Prakash Jha. Priyanka Chopra launched the trailer along with the entire cast and crew today.

Priyanka Chopra plays Abha Mathur who is a senior SP in Bankepur talks about her biggest challenge to play the role. She said, “I am brought up in Lucknow and Bareily and an educated girl. Abha is from Bankepur, UP and she is a modern girl as well so to play Abha was easy but the challenge was to be feminine while playing a tough cop at the same time.”

Priyanka who is winning accolades for her power packed FBI agent in Hollywood television show ‘Quantico’ feels that ‘Jai Gangaajal’ helped her a lot in playing a cop. She revealed, “It is because of ‘Jai Gangaajal’ I could play my role in Quantico.” “Abha Mathur was trained in Bhopal which is why she is doing wonders in Quantico”, adds Prakash Jha.

Actress also reveals that ‘Jai Gangaajal’ was her quickest shot film ever, “This film was my quickest film. The total time we had shot is even less than shooting an entire film”, she laughs. ‘I shot the film whenever I got the time between ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Quantico’, she adds.

The film also marks the acting debut of director Prakash Jha who is playing a cop too. At the trailer launch, Priyanka funnily said, “I am a senior artist than Prakash Jha in the film.” Priyanka is seen doing high-octane action in the trailer. When asked about her experience, she said, “I did a lot of work out to become really strong for the role of Abha Mathur.” Unlike her film, she confessed that she has slapped a guy during her shoot of ‘Anjaana Anjaani’, “Ya I got a chance to slap. I was shooting for Anjaana Anjaani in Mumbai and one guy came and held my hand forcefully to click a picture and soon after I felt guilty of doing so and ran away from there but I just can’t abuse.”


When quizzed Priyanka about the hottest cop on screen among Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, she shrugged and said, “Hang on! I look the best in the cop uniform.” When asked piggy chops about watching ‘Dilwale’, she said, “It such an embarrassing thing that I haven’t seen my own film ‘Bajirao Mastani’ till now. My phone is jammed with calls and messages from all over. Mr. Amitabh Bachchan has sent his wishes via letter written in Hindi. My aunt read out the letter to me and had also sent me its picture.”
