Alwal dwellers against alternative routes of AOC

It was the GHMC and the government who submitted this alternative roads plan for AOC

Hyderabad: Residents of Alwal are of the opinion that the alternative routes for AOC will hamper their connectivity and want the Army to reopen the closed roads. “The phrase ‘Alternative Roads’ was not in our plan. It was the instruction given to local authorities (state and GHMC) by Justice Naveen Rao in his judgment.

It was the GHMC and the government who submitted this alternative roads plan for AOC to the defence ministry on December 23, 2014 in New Delhi. We have never submitted any alternative roads’ plan,” say residents. Alternative routes will further hamper movement to Alwal and Bollaram, as all RK Puram traffic will get diverted to Trimulgherry.

S. Chandrasekhar, a resident of Trimulgherry said, “Malkajgiri and Sainikpuri residents have supported the alternative routes and have agreed to it in principle, whereas we at Alwal, Yapral, Kowkoor are dead against any alternative routes and we want all closed roads to be opened without any further delay.”

Ashwin Nallari Naidu of Alwal added, “Building of a flyover in Trimulgherry is not the solution as it is going to take more than four-five years, during this time the governments can change and things will become status quo and citizens will be left high and dry. Under Section 258 [A] of the Cantonment Board Act, only the SCB can close any roads after taking public opinion and following prior and proper protocol.

This was not adhered to by the Army authorities.” Residents of Alwal want all closed roads to be reopened instead of creating alternative routes. B.T. Srinivas of Malkajgiri said that Malkajgiri GHMC circle would be the first to suffer from the AOC roads closure.

“If Army closes

  • Entrancement Road: from S.P. Road/East Marredpally to Allahabad gate
  • Wellington Road: from Secunderabad Club to Allahabad gate
  • Ordinance Road: from Safilguda junction towards Safilguda railway crossing
  • Gough Road: from Kendriya Vidyalaya crossing to East /West Marredpally
  • Mornington Road: from Trimulgherry Hanuman temple to Gough Road of AOC centre road, we are the worst sufferers,” he said.

As per the data collected by Army, around 1.9 lakh vehicles crisscross the AOC swimming pool junction daily. This traffic constitutes commuters to and from Malkajgiri (GHMC Circle), A.S. Rao Nagar, Kapra and Moula Ali.
