KOLLAM: A year after Roji Roy’s death after falling from the KIMS hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, the investigation is not conclusive. Roji Roy’s deaf and dumb parents under the banner of the Kollam district deaf and dumb association on Monday protested in front of the Legislative assembly demanding a CBI probe into the case.
The High Court also expressed concern that no case, including abetment of suicide, has yet been registered against anyone in connection with the incident.
The case is currently with the Kerala High Court and the Court has asked for reports from the Crime Branch and asked why a case for abetment of suicide was not taken.
Meanwhile, the protesters alleged that the Crime Branch was opposing a CBI inquiry after involvement of vested interests including the hospital management.
“Any Government agen-cy that has been entrusted with the inquiry will not be trustworthy and hence we demand a CBI probe. We have given petitions to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister,” Roji Roy action council secretary Sanjay Nallila told DC.
The protesters also allege that despite repeated requests, the Crime Branch has not yet taken statements from auto drivers and others who witnessed the incident near the hospital building.
The action council also informed the Crime Branch that Roji’s colleagues had given witness accounts of Roji crying in front of the Principal’s cabin on the day of the incident.
Roji Roy was a second year B.Sc nursing student with the KIMS school of Nursing in Thiruvananthapuram. She allegedly jumped to her death from the 10th floor of the North building of KIMS hospital, Thiruvananthapuram on November 6, 2014 at 12.30 pm and succumbed to injuries at 6.00 pm in the same hospital.
The case prolonged even after the investigating officer filed a detailed report regarding the current status of investigation to the High Court in March this year.
The case was first with the Medical College Police and was transferred to Crime detachment ACP, Thiruvananthapuram City. Later, the case was handed over to the CBCID.
