MLC Polls: More aspirants in TRS

Caste equations are playing vital role in selection of candidates

Adilabad: Majority of voters in the MLC elections belonged to TRS in the district and the landslide victory of the TRS in the Warangal elections has raised the number of TRS ticket aspirants for MLC of local bodies in Adilabad. The ticket aspirants strongly believe that winning the MLC seat would be cakewalk if they get the party ticket.

It is said that Opposition parties may not try their hand seriously as their voters are fewer and there are no serious candidates from main Opposition parties Congress and TD, to contest in the elections against TRS.

On the other hand, party’s victory in Warangal byelections boosted the morale of the cadre, second-rung leaders and they are confident of winning the MLC election.

Nearly 10 senior party leaders are in queue for the party ticket including party east district president Puranam Satish, west district president Lok Bhumareddy, senior TRS leader Srihari Rao, former Union minister S. Venugopala Chary for MLC ticket. Aspirants are using their caste lobbies to get the party ticket for the MLC election.

Collector M.Jagan Mohan said polling booths for election of MLC of local bodies will be held at five revenue divisions — Adilabad, Nirmal, Utnoor, Asifabad and Mancherial headquarters in the district.

According to official sources, total 882 voters including 52 ZPTCs, 635 MPTCs and 188 municipal councillors and six MLAs. An MP will exercise their vote and election code will be in force till January 1 till the completion of polling. Election code will be enforced from November 24 to January 1, 2016. Majority of the ZPTCs, MPTC and Councillors, MLAs belong to Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in Adilabad district.

A senior political leader said though number of aspirants for party ticket was high and few candidates are serious contenders and party president K. Chandra-sekhar Rao’s decision was final in selection of party candidate for MLC from Adilabad.

He said winning the MLC seat in Adilabad is a cakewalk for the TRS candidate to be fielded by the party as majority of the voters belonged to TRS and they cannot vote for candidates of Opposi-tion parties against the party instructions. Caste equations are playing vital role in selection of candidates for 12 MLC posts.
