Hyderabad traders divided over Metro Rail alignment

The set back could be worked out at 70 feet at Badi Chowdi

Hyderabad: There is a major split between traders at Putlibowli and Badi Chowdi, who have agreed to the Metro Rail route, and those in Sultan Bazaar who are opposing it.

Putlibowli and Badi Chowdi traders had told Metro Rail officials that instead of taking 100 feet in the entire area, the set back could be worked out at 70 feet at Badi Chowdi, 50 feet at Sultan Bazaar and 70 feet at Koti and Putlibowli.

Chairman of the Traders Joint Action Committee Govind Rathi said, “We are trying to ensure that there is minimum loss to traders and hawkers.”

Traders said they had several meetings with Metro Rail officers and their proposal was being considered. In Sultan Bazaar, 35 of 50 owners have reportedly agreed to the Metro Rail route, sources said.
