Thermal power project in Telangana hits eco block

The ministry is sending a sub-committee for inspection of the project site and the water body

Hyderabad: Telangana government’s ambitious 5x800 MW super critical coal based thermal power project faces the risk of running into an environmental block.

The Union Environment Ministry has raised a query over the Rs 31,400 crore proposed thermal power plant causing pollution to the water body located in the vicinity of the project site at Damaracherla in Nalgonda district.

The ministry is sending a sub-committee for inspection of the project site and the water body. Based on the report of the sub-committee a decision on environmental clearance for the project would be taken.
