Mahadayi stir to assume Maha proportions

The protesters vowed to continue their agitation until the Centre and state government resume work on Kalsa-Banduri project

Belagavi: To mark the 100th day of sthe indefinite strike launched by various organisations in front of the Belagavi deputy commissioner’s office demanding implementation of Mahadayi project, the protesters announced a mega rally on December 6 to exert pressure on the state government. Several major farmer organisations including Rajya Raitha Sangha will be taking part in the rally.

The protesters vowed to continue their agitation until the Centre and state government resume work on Kalsa-Banduri project at Kankumbi to ensure flow of water through Kalsa and Banduri nalas into Malaprabha. More than 5000 farmers headed by Kodihalli Chandrashekhar, president of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha have decided to join the rally, according to Sangha office-bearers.

According to farmer leader B.M. Malali, an important meeting of farmer leaders scheduled for December 3 at Basava Vana, Haveri, will take a decision on the protests to be launched followed by the rally on December 6.

Leaders from various organisations besides hundreds of political leaders have extended support to the agitations launched in Belagavi and Bailhongal. Noted Kannada film actors too have joined the indefinite agitations urging the government to take measures for the project's implementation.
