Bengaluru: Two held for cheating Star TV group

They were illegally airing the channels of Star India Private Limited group

Bengaluru: The sleuths of the fraud and misappropriation squad of the Central Crime Branch have arrested two cable operators for allegedly illegally airing the channels of Star India Private Limited group.

The accused have been identified as Chandrashekhar, 38, a resident of SMS Layout in J.P. Nagar Fifth Stage and Prabhu, 26, a resident of Shantipura in Electronics City and a native of Tamil Nadu.

According to the police, the accused were running Sagar E-Technologies Private Limited in Electronics City II State. They had entered into a contract with Star India Private Limited group in October last year. As per the agreement, they were authorized to air Star TV channels till June 31 this year and they had to pay around Rs 73.27 lakh to the company.

As they did not pay the money as per the contract, the company had disabled Sagar E-Technologies Private Limited from airing its channels by blocking the signals. However, the accused allegedly used Hathway set-top boxes and aired Star TV channels, thereby cheating the company.

Investigations revealed that they had colluded with Nagesh S. Kalburgi, the Chairman of Sagar E-Technologies Private Limited, and had caused a loss of Rs 28 lakh to the Star group,” the police added.
