Ranji Trophy: Hyderabad eye victory as bowlers trip Tripura

M. Ravi Kiran was the top wicket-taker for Hyderabad with 4 for 45
Hyderabad: This is unfamiliar territory for young Hyderabad captain G.H. Vihari. After three days of complete dominance, the home side are within reach of their first outright victory this season, after enforcing the follow-on against Tripura in their Group ‘C’ Ranji Trophy match being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
Tripura, in response to the hosts’ mammoth 548 for 5 (declared), crumbled for just 237 runs. When the sun rises on the fourth — and final — day, they will resume on 25 for no loss, 286 runs still in
arrears.
But for that elusive victory to become reality, the Hyderabad attack will have to rise to the occasion, much like they did in Tripura’s first outing. The visitors began the third day on shaky ground. After conceding a mountain of runs to Hyderabad, they had lost an early wicket to end the second day on 13 for 1.
And despite the best efforts of No.3 batsman Arindam Das (73), Tripura’s innings didn’t amount to much. Vihari enforced the follow-on without much hesitation and Tripura soon found themselves back out at the crease, this time desperate to give a better account of themselves.
M. Ravi Kiran was the top wicket-taker for Hyderabad with 4 for 45. Left-arm pacer C.V. Milind too played a key role, scalping 3 for 50. With both openers surviving the final few minutes of the third day, Tripura’s main objective should be to bat for as long as possible and deny the home side a win.
