Khammam: The farmers has found fault with the government for not announcing a single mandal in Khammam district as drought-hit. They felt that there were lacunae in calculating the drought-hit mandals and the system should be changed. The crop situation in 15 mandals is vulnerable but the officials did not take the ground realities into account.
Kandimalla Krisnha Rao, a farmer from Bonakal said that the officials came to the conclusion on the drought hit mandals by taking the crop sown area and rainfall. “These officials did not take the other factors into account,” he said.
Interestingly, the rainfall in June was very good in 90 per cent mandals and the farming community cultivated various crops with it. But, dry spell conditions were witnessed in the district from last week of July till now. “The officials took the sown area and initial rainfall of the district. They took count of the details and declared not one mandal as drought-hit,” N Prabhakara Rao said. The officials have gone as per the central guidelines and sent reports to the government.
He said that they did not consider the crops getting dried up due to dry spell in September and October. He said that the state government should argue the case of Telangana before Centre by appraising the correct situation. About 40 per cent of the crops in Bonakal, Kusumanchi, Tiruma-layapalem, Tallada, Enkoor, and Mudigonda and Nelakondapalli mandals were lost due to dry spell.
