Hyderabad: In the end, anti-incumbency and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti not living up to its pre-general election promises were so much talk in the wind as the 17-month-old ruling party created history on Tuesday.
Party candidate Pasunoori Dayakar won the Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll with a record margin of 4,59, 092 votes, surpassing the 2014 victory margin of 3,97,574. No one, in his wildest dream, had predicted such a landslide victory for the TRS candidate.
The supposedly best-laid plans of the Congress and the BJP, of teaching Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao a lesson in humility by improving their vote share, came to naught as the 11 lakh voters of Warangal made their choice clear.
Classic example of how patience pays
Patience is one of the virtues of an artist, and Pasunoori Dayakar, who on Monday became the 16th MP from Warangal, has loads of it.
“One should always wait for an opportunity, but one should not assume that this is the moment he or she has been waiting for,” has been the advice given by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, and Mr Dayakar says he had kept those words in mind, while biding his time for the opportunity to knock at his door.

From a regular party worker to becoming an MP, Mr Dayakar has had to tread on the path of hard work, yet he remained steadfast in his efforts, not letting disappointment at not being able to contest in 2009 and 2014 overcome him. When he finally got the ticket, Mr Dayakar knew that Lady Luck has finally reached out to him.
Despite, the Opposition going all out, targetting the TRS rule and claiming “disenchantment”, Mr Dayakar remained confident, and the results are for all to see. “My hard work and dedication has paid off.
No other party would have given importance to a common party worker like me. A common artiste like me got a chance to serve the people and I will work to live up to the expectations of the people,” he said.
Born in a poor Dalit family in Bollikunta village of Sangem mandal in Warangal district, Mr Dayakar grew up to become an artist and a photographer. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the JNTU.
