Hi-tech facilities opened at driving test ground

Move to make tests more efficient
KOZHIKODE: Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan inaugurated a slew of modern electronic facilities to make driving tests and related services more efficient at the Chevayur testing ground on Monday.
Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has initiated the new hi-tech facility with the support of Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron).
Some of the facilities incorporated at the testing ground include a scientific testing track, computerised call centre and modern driving stimulator for assisting learners and e- service facilities that could help a person remit any kind of fine charged by MVD and traffic police officials.
The minister also inaugurated the additional facilities initiated by MVD that include eight radar cameras at various spots on National Highway to trace speed limit violations.
The minister said that similar hi-tech facilities would be initiated at every driving licence testing centre which would help in the smooth and systematic conduct of tests.
“At the same time with the installation of facilities like driving stimulator, learners can easily detect unhealthy driving practices,” explained Regional Transport Officer K Premanandan.
The new facility will also make available for applicants of learners printouts to help them systematically evaluate their driving faults.
This facility is currently available in Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram districts, he said. With this transformation, all driving tests including for light motor vehicle can be completed on time.
