Ford’s drug driving suit simulates the dangers of driving while high

Individuals are subjected to trembling hands, blurry vision, and reduced movement

Mumbai: In a move to teach young people about the consequences driving a vehicle while high, Ford has developed an ingenious ‘drug-driving suit’ to artificially replicate the ill effects of driving under the influence of drugs.

The American motor company pointed out that it is dangerous to take up the wheels after consuming drugs such as cannabis, hashish, cocaine, heroin, LSD and MDMA.

Individuals who consume drugs customarily believe that driving under the influence of drugs is far better than that of alcohol. An article that appeared on the Independent highlighted this issue.

Developed in coordination with scientists from the Meyer-Hentschel Institute in Germany, the suit consists of elbow padding, wrist weight, ankle weight, neck bandages, vision impairment goggles, and headphones.

“We know that some drugs can cause trembling hands, so we incorporated into the suit a device that creates just such a tremor,” said Meyer-Hentschel Institute scientist Gundolf Meyer-Hentschel.

All of the equipments combine to create visionary illusions and artificial sounds, which make driving very tricky. After wearing this suit, individuals are subjected to trembling hands, blurry vision, and reduced movement, which are exactly the symptoms of getting high.

Additionally, Ford is also launching a program, dubbed Ford Driving Skills for Life’s driver education programme, to show people why it is dangerous to drive under the influence of drugs.

Ford UK has shared a number of test videos showing what the suit is capable of. Here is one of the videos featuring Ben Collins:
