College student dies in road accident

The accident happened around 5.15 am, the police said

Bengaluru: An 18-year-old second year PU student was killed while his friend suffered injuries after their bike rammed into the compound wall of a burial ground in Malleswaram traffic police station limits early Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Rakesh, who was riding the bike, while the injured, Pawan, 17, was on the pillion. Both were second PU students of the Hombegowda PU College in Rajajinagar, the police said. While Rakesh was a resident of Srirampura, Pawan was from Shankarapura, the police added.

According to the police, the duo was going to college on the bike (registration number KA-04-HF-2929) to attend early morning tuition classes. They were travelling from Malleswaram towards Navarang Theatre on the MKK Road and were reportedly over-speeding. The bike hit a speed-breaker and Rakesh lost control of the vehicle and it rammed into the compound wall of Harishchandra Ghat.

The accident happened around 5.15 am, the police said. Few passersby rushed the duo to a nearby hospital where Rakesh was declared brought dead and Pawan was shifted to Nimhans for treatment as he had sustained grievous head injuries, the police added.

The police have found a helmet at the accident spot along with the damaged bike. The Malleswaram police have registered a case and are investigating further.
