Bengaluru: PT teacher sexually assaults 4-year-old girl

The lower kindergarten student was attending dance classes when the incident occurred

BENGALURU: A four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a physical training teacher at her school in Parappana Agrahara on Monday. The accused teacher has been arrested.

The lower kindergarten (LKG) student was attending dance classes when the incident occurred. The girl went home after school and complained to her mother that her private parts were paining. She told her mother that a male teacher put his hand into her private parts.

The shocked mother immediately informed her husband and rushed the child to St John's Hospital, where the doctors confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted. The parents then filed a complaint with the police, who swung into action and arrested the teacher after registering a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The alleged incident occurred in an English medium school, which has been running for the last 16 years. The school had recently outsourced four teachers from a company that claimed to have done background verification of their recruits. The accused is one among them, a senior police officer said.

The teachers were recruited for physical training, dance and other extracurricular activities. “We found that the company had relied on word of mouth recommendation before recruiting these teachers," said Ms Rohini Katoch Sepat, DCP, Southeast Division. “The accused, a man from Manipur, has been staying in Bengaluru for the last four years and was working in the school for the last six months," she said.

The parents told the police that the child was happy going to the school. The child has been subjected to medical tests as per protocol and the results are awaited.
