Tangedco complaint cell gets 5,000 calls

Tangedco official said as a precautionary measure, power supply has been stopped in low-lying areas in advance
Chennai: With many parts of the city facing long hours of power outage, Tangedco’s power failure complaint number 1912 was flooded with 5,000 calls on Monday. According to Tangedco officials, the computer based power failure redressal call centre 1912 received 5,000 calls on Monday till 6 pm as against average daily calls of around 2000.
The increase in the number of complaints was due to 20 to 24 hours power outage in several localities, particularly Nanganallur, Velachery, Choolaimedu, Kodambakkam, Kondithope, Egmore, Tambaram, Chromepet and RK Nagar.
A Tangedco official said as a precautionary measure, power supply has been stopped in low-lying areas in advance. “Our filed staff have removed fuses from pillar boxes in low-lying areas. Once the flood recedes, power supply will be restored immediately after inspection,” the official said adding that field staff and materials were kept ready to meet any eventuality due to rain.
Mahesh Kumar, a resident of Velachery said after calls to local EB office went unanswered, he made several attempts to register a complaint with 1912 but always got a waiting tone.
Man washed away in Kancheepuram
A 32-year-old man, M. Giridharan, was washed away in rain water on Monday at Ananda Nagar in Urupakkam, Kancheepuram district. Giridharan, assistant manager of Lakshmi Villas Bank on Thambuchetty Street in Parrys was returning home at around 2 am after attending a relative’s wedding in Puducherry.
After he got down from the bus at Anand Nagar, Giridharan tried crossing a heavily flooded stretch when he lost control and fell inside. Two passerbys alerted the fire rescue services but Giridharan’s body is yet to be found. A case had been registered with the Guduvancherry police station.
