People earning over Rs 10 lakh to lose LPG sop in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

30 lakh responded to plea and give up subsidy

Hyderabad: The Centre is considering withdrawing subsidy on LPG cylinders for those whose annual income is above Rs 10 lakh. Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was considering withdrawing LPG subsidy to ministers, MPs and legislators besides for people whose annual income is above Rs 10 lakh.

“So far 30 lakh people have responded to the call given by Mr Modi to give up LPG subsidy. Now we are seriously considering making it mandatory for certain sections,” Mr Venkaiah said at a function organised by the Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Saturday.

Criticising the Opposition for opposing every policy of the NDA, Mr Venkaiah said it appeared that their opposition was only to Mr Modi becoming PM. “The Opposition should change their mindset. One can oppose anyone politically but not reforms and policies as India is now poised to become the biggest economic player in the world. Opposition needs to realise this and cooperate with the government,” he added.

“Unfortunately our detractors are not able to tolerate peoples mandate; they are becoming intolerant, indulging in disinformation, sometimes at the cost of national interest. Knowingly or unknowingly they are painting India as an intolerant nation; this is not good,” he said.
