Ayukta impeachment: Kagodu Thimmappa to call meet

The joint session of the State Legislature will be held from November 16 to 27 in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A meeting of floor leaders will be convened before taking up the motion to impeach Lokayukta Y Bhaskar Rao following certain a few problems in the existing Act, said Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa. The joint session of the State Legislature will be held from November 16 to 27 in Bengaluru.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, he said a meeting of all party leaders would be held some time next week to discuss certain difficulties in the Karnataka Lokayukta (amendment) Act, 2015. As per the amendment, chief justice of Karnataka has to constitute a committee of judges to go into the allegations against the Lokayukta.

Subsequently, that committee has to submit its findings to the State government which would be referred to another committee appointed by the presiding officers of both Houses. The government cannot fix a time limit for the judges committee to submit its findings. “Once we take up this subject we should not burn our fingers. So, we need to find out legal remedy before taking a call on it.”

Mr Thimmappa said the House had met for 58 days in the current years as against 60 days planned earlier.

The issue of holding a week-long session in Belagavi Suvarna Soudha will be discussed in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting to be held next week. However, it was up to the government to accept or reject his proposal. Since the government had built the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, a short session could be held before December to discuss issues of that region.

On rights of forest dwellers, he said he came to the Assembly to raise his voice on the plight of forest dwellers but now his voice had remained unheard.
