Top NDFB(S) commander killed in encounter with security forces in Assam

He was identified as Jaola Basumatry and top hierarchy of the NDFB(S)

Guwahati: In a major breakthrough, a joint team of army and police on Saturday gunned down a top commander of outlawed NDFB (S) in an encounter.

The slain NDFB(S) commander Jaola Basumatary was directly involved in Kokrajhar carnage. The National Investigating Agency probing the Kokrajhar carnage of adivasi had also registered three cases against the NDFB commander.

The defence spokesperson Lt. Col. Suneet Newton in statement said that the army acting on a specific tip of about the presence of NDFB rebels launched a joint operation in Chirang district.

The heavily armed NDFB rebels sensing the presence of security forces opened indiscriminate fire, which was retaliated by a joint team of army and police.

One of the terrorists sustained injury in the ensuing encounter and was shifted to a civil hospital in Kajolgaon where he was declared brought dead.

Later he was identified as Jaola Basumatry resident of village Deigudung in Chirang. He was part of the top hierarchy of the NDFB(S) . He was involved in the December 2014 Kokrajhar carnage, where Adivasis were killed in cold blood by the NDFB(S).

The NIA had registered three cases against him, in this regard and was on the lookout for him. A Pistol, which the terrorist used to fire at the security forces has been recovered along with some ammunition.
