‘Kadhalil Vizhundha’ Nakul gets engaged

Nakul considers Sruti his lucky charm as she supports his career
A decade ago, a plump-looking Nakul, who was in his teens, never dreamt of taking up a film career. He was lured into tinsel town by ace filmmaker Shankar in his film Boys — not because he happened to be the kid brother of popular actress Devyani, but due to his guitar playing skills! Now, one of the most eligible bachelors in the industry is engaged to Sruti Bhaskar, a Chennai-based girl he was dating for the last five years. Shruti is a MBA graduate and has also done a course in baking from London. Daughter of noted still photographer AV Bhaskar, Sruti, who had a stint at Leela Palace, is presently working with SPI Cinemas. The engagement took place at Radha Regent Hotel in the city on Friday with family and close friends of the couple gracing the occasion.
Nakul who was in a blissful mood spoke to DC in an exclusive, “We are in the kitchen and she is baking a special cake, and I am sort of helping and learning from her (laughs). It’s a love-cum-arranged marriage. Five years back, I met her and as if struck by lightning, I went ‘wow!’ We started as friends, but soon realised there’s more to it. I proposed to her and asked her straight, ‘Shall we get married one day?’ For a moment, she didn’t know how to react — then burst into laughter!”
Nakul adds, “More than anything else, she’s my critic-cum-best friend. Now, that’s a rare combination, you see. It’s not the usual love-at-first-sight kind of story. The little joys in life don’t go unnoticed when I am with her. Above all, I am myself when I am around her. Though she’s younger to me, Sruti is quite mature and an amazing cook. The way she respects people made me fall in love with her.” The actor considers her as his lucky charm and grins, “She is very supportive of my career. Marriage is just a matter of signing the papers now. We have many similarities and there are differences as well. But we make a point to respect each other’s differences and embrace the commonalities. I am a laid-back fellow and she’s my only motivating factor. She’s cool with me continuing to act.” On the career front, he is looking forward to Narathan where he teams up with Nikesha Patel. His last two films Vallinam and Tamizhukku En Ordrai Azhutthavum got him critical acclaim.
“I have listened to two more scripts and am going to sign them soon. I will announce them once I go on board,” he says. Though the wedding date is yet to be finalised, the couple would enter marital bliss next year (2016) in the month of February.
