Hong Kong stocks up by lunch after losing streak

Hong Kong: Hong Kong stocks ended Thursday morning on a high after a five-day losing streak but Shanghai retreated on fears recent advances may have been overplayed.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong was up 0.97 per cent, or 216.80 points, at 22,568.97.

But the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 1.00 per cent, or 36.54 points, to 3,613.71, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, fell 0.67 per cent, or 15.06 points, to 2,238.15.
