Robotic insect and wire map among 28 projects displayed at centre
Chennai: The Centre for Innovation in IIT-Madras held an exhibition wherein students from all departments displayed projects starting from drones, formula one racing car to making wireless chargers.
Around 28 projects were on display at the centre on Saturday. Students also came out with a project called “car copter” designed by aerospace department. The car copter is designed for surveillance and the device can fly as well as move like a car, sneaking through dingy roads, said final year student Pragyan Patnaik of engineering design department.
“We are still in the designing process. It will cost around Rs 5 to 6 lakhs. It will be a solution to the wave determination wherein we can determine the paths from which the waves are coming and blocking transmission.,” Pragyan said
Adding that his project will be launched in March as part of the entrepreneurship program. Starting from robotic insect project called wasp, autonomous book scanner, protein music and wiremap to making of different kinds of apps were the other innovations developed by IITians.
According to the organisers, the event was meant for the Nirmaan programme (part of entrepreneurship programme) where students projected their business ideas. Parth Shah, a student who created wiremap, said the project builds digital 3D objects in real 3D space. The result is a floating, glowing, 3d object made entirely of light. It was a projection of lights on 120 threads.
G. Surya, a chemical engineering student, has designed a wireless charger. “Within a range of 20 ft by 20 ft, a receiver will be connected to the phone and a transmitter will be there in the socket. The receiver connects to the phone and collects the energy from the transmitter and charges the phone like in case of WiFi”, the student explained.
