100 kmph boards on National Highways confuses on speed limit

Hyderabad: There’s a lot of confusion about the speed limit on highways as AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed the police to penalise those who drive above 80 kmph.

However, speed limit boards of 100 kmph have been put up on several national highways in both Telangana and Andhra; the National Highways Authority of India says the speed limit on all six-lane highways is 100 kmph.

NHAI (AP and Telangana) chief general manager Chandrasekhar Reddy said the speed limit on four-lane highways was 80 kmph and 100 kmph on six lanes.

“The Vijayawada to Chikalaluripet stretch is a six-lane highway. It has an upper speed limit designed for 100 kmph. The road from Chilakalurpet to Nellore is also six lanes. We have already completed 165 km and the remaining 20 km will be completed in six to seven months. The speed limit for the Hyderabad-Vijayawada NH is only 80 kmph,” said Mr Reddy.
