Washington: A Telugu organisation in the US on Monday said it will raise funds for building Amravati- the new capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Telugu Association of North America (TANA) President V Chowdary Jampala said the organisation would accept donations from its community members in the US and Canada and present the collected donations to the Andhra Pradesh government.
"There are many non-resident Telugus in North America who wish to make their share of contributions to the development of the new capital and participate in this campaign," Jampala said in a statement.
TANA, which has been raising funds for the development of the new capital from May, 2014, will facilitate this and accept donations from anyone who wishes to donate to the current campaign, he said.
"We will present the amount collected to the government of Andhra Pradesh along with a list of all donor," he said.
Andhra government is holding a foundation ceremony for Amaravati on October 22. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to the public to support the building and development of the capital 'brick by brick'.
A campaign - My Brick, My Amaravati, has been launched at amaravati.gov.in for interested public to sponsor 'bricks' with each brick at Rs 10.
"That web site, however, is not yet enabled to collect funds from people outside India," TANA said.
