Chandrababu Naidu to ask Centre for changes to benefit students, staff

Hyderabad: Admitting to a legal hurdle for granting native status to employees, students and others who are ready to shift to the Andhra Pradesh capital of Amaravati from Hyderabad, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has written to Union home minister Rajnath Singh to amend the rules.
Mr Naidu has sought amendment to the AP Educational Institutions Regularisation of Admissions order and the AP Public Employment orders.
Mr Naidu has requested the Centre to bring about suitable amendments to the Presidential Order to extend local status to the children of AP government employees and others who otherwise do not fulfil the criteria in the existing definition meant for education and employment.
Mr Naidu wrote: “Bifurcation of the state has created an unexpected dimension for the people who have to move to the residuary state of AP. The Presidential Order mandates local status on the basis of minimum period of four years of study or residency in a particular area. Hence the children of families who shift to AP during this period will not have qualification of the four-year period as required from the date of shifting. This will lead to a disadvantageous position for such people as they will not only lose local status in Hyderabad or other parts of Telangana state, but also will not have local status of the area where they move to in AP.”
