I stood firmly with secular forces: CM Oommen Chandy

Chandy says he doesn’t need Pinarayi’s certificate

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday slammed CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan's statement that he was behind the tie-up between SNDP and RSS in the state.

In a statement, Mr Chandy said that Pinarayi’s statement was due to the frustration of losing party cadres to the BJP in many parts of the state.

The chief minister said he believed that Sree Naryana Guru’s followers would never allow a great organisation like SNDP Yogam to be surrendered before RSS.

This was evident from the Vellapally Natesan’s statement that they would constitute a secular front under the leadership of SNDP through the BJP had announced a similar coalition led by the Sangh Parivar.

He said the CPM leader had levelled allegations as his party came under attack on crucifixion of Guru in a tableau and also because of the exodus CPM workers towards BJP camp.

“I am sure people of the state will not believe in the allegations levelled by Pinarayi Vijayan. People will see through his lie that clandestine tie-up with RSS was to continue in power. In 1977 CPM had aligned with RSS and 1989 CPM and BJP had supported the VP Singh Government. People are aware of my past political history. I have stood firmly with secular forces and fought against communal organisations. I have never encouraged communal or divisive forces in politics or in government. I don’t need Pinarayi’s certificate to prove my secular credentials. The Indian national Congress is fighting against communal forces across the country and not the Marxists,” he said.

The chief minister said that the CPM leader has always echoed Sangh Paivar allegations against the UDF Government accusing it of appeasing minorities. He had adopted their agenda for vested political interests, Mr Chandy said.
