Enforcement Directorate may quiz Mayawati in NHRC scam

The ED is still scrutinising certain financial records on the utilisation of Rs 10,000 crores

New Delhi: Days after going through gruelling questioning by the CBI, former Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati seems headed for further trouble as the Enforcement Directorate is preparing to examine her over the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission scam.

“The agency may examine Ms Mayawati as part of its investigation into the NRHM scam. The final decision in this regard will be taken soon,” a source said. The ED, which has so far registered more than 15 cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the NRHM scam, recently attached assets worth Rs 60 crores belonging to former UP family welfare minister Babu Singh Kushwaha.

Besides, it has also attached properties worth Rs 28 crores allegedly belonging to former BSP MLA R.P. Jaiswal in connection with the case. The ED is still scrutinising certain financial records on the utilisation of Rs 10,000 crores funds allocated under the Centrally-sponsored scheme to UP by the Union health ministry, sources said. Action will soon begin against some suppliers, they added.
